New toll tariffs – type of drive and CO2 classes

In 2020 the EU transport ministers have initiated a pricing of the toll based on CO2 classes. ASFINAG already commissioned Rapp in 2019 to draw up a rough concept for the implementation of a differentiation of the GO toll rate according to type of drive and CO2 classes. In addition, Rapp was to accompany the implementation of the necessary system adjustments.

Rapp had the task of developing a concept that includes the implementation of the vehicle classification according to 'EngineCharacteristics' and 'CarbondioxidPolution' already provided for in the ISO 14906 standard within the GO toll in Austria. In this context, all system components were analysed with regard to necessary adaptations, and solutions were described how to enable the implementation of the new vehicle classes in the GO toll system.

After completion of the analysis and concept phase, Rapp acted as project management office to support the planning, documentation and coordination during implementation. The implementation was divided into three phases.

For phase 2 and phase 3 of the implementation, Rapp was entrusted with the test management of the acceptance tests. This included the conceptual design of the acceptance tests, the coordination of the external and internal test activities as well as the preparation of an expert opinion regarding the maturity of the respective release before its deployment.
